IM not entirely sure how external video cards work. IM getting one because I have a not so great integrated video card (meanikng I can replace it)

such as the ram and processing|||Those adaptors are only intended to give you more screen space. They usually have no Directdraw or Direct3D acceleration, so they're very slow. It'll have just enough memory to hold a 32 bit colour image, it won't be doing anything fancy with it. For example playing 3D games or watching a DVD will be out of the question. It won't even be as good as your integrated graphics.|||You're doing it wrong. External video cards are nothing more than dumb screen connections. They don't have a real GPU and they have only the meager amount of video RAM to put the image on the screen. The only thing they are good for is adding a dumb display for basic work. DO NOT get one thinking it'll run things better than your integrated card.
If you have a desktop, then get a real video card. If you have a laptop, then get a better laptop.
